Captivating Colors that Capture the Essence of Being There
I take pictures wherever I go. Thousands of pictures document my travels. It’s out of control, apparently, since my husband reminds me with every click, “why are you taking another picture? You know it never does justice to the experience of being there.” That’s what inspires me when I create; I want to capture the essence of the shadows of the mountains and glow of the sky at sunset, or the painterly clouds reflecting on the shimmering water below, or the feeling of the warm sun peeking through the cool of the trees. I want YOU to have that same feeling when you look at a finished piece, perhaps seeing instead a place that warms your heart.
The use of oil pastels is newer for me. For decades, I had only experienced the school-grade pastels in the classrooms where I taught. Then I took an oil pastel class that literally wowed me…where had these wonderfully buttery little sticks been all my life? I tend to like to do things my own way (just ask my kids), so I don’t draw with them or work with them in a traditional manner; I layer and remove color using various non-traditional tools until I am happy with what I see and what I think you’ll see. If you see something you love, but don’t see a size or material that works for you, shoot me an email and I’ll see what I can do. Once an original finds its forever home, I produce limited edition prints, but only 20-50 reproductions. Prints of various sizes are made on metal or acrylic, which beautifully enhance the colors and capture the light! When the limited edition total is reached, that’s it for that particular work of art. Then I get to make more!
NEW! Snippets Jewelry!! I had a metal art print come in with a flaw, so I had it remade. Then I thought about what I could do with the damaged metal print. I used to teach jewelry and had the tools, so I tried cutting it apart, and Voila! Snippets were born! Each piece of jewelry is a unique “snippet” from a larger art piece, making each item one-of-a-kind. Because they are made from aluminum, they are very lightweight and easy to wear. Some have beads or natural stones added, others are accented with wire. Earring wires are sterling silver. I can to special order plastic hypoallergenic post earrings as well.
